Part-Time Studio Assistant (Ceramics / Jewelry / Polymer Clay)

I’m looking for a part-time studio assistant to support my ceramics and Jewelry practice a few hours each week.

This is a small, focused studio environment with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, consistency, and care in process. The work is hands-on, sometimes repetitive, and best suited for someone who genuinely enjoys being in a working studio and finds satisfaction in detailed, intentional making.

There are also always dogs in the studio, so comfort with (and genuine love for) dogs is a must.

Details:

  • Location- Kansas City, MO

  • Approximately 8-10 hours/week with possibility of more hours during busy seasons.

  • Start date- ASAP

  • Starting pay $16/hour

  • Flexible scheduling

You’ll be helping with things like:

  • Clay preparation and reclaim

  • Assisting with slab ceramics production and finishing work

  • Glazing and surface preparation

  • Jewelry and polymer clay making / preparation

  • Packing and shipping work

  • General studio upkeep (cleaning, organizing, etc.)

  • Occasional kiln loading/unloading (can be taught)

What I’m looking for:

  • Ceramics experience is required

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

  • Must have good hand strength and dexterity.

  • Strong attention to detail and consistency in repetitive work

  • Comfortable working independently once trained

  • Reliable, communicative, and respectful of studio systems

  • Experience with jewelry-making and/or polymer clay is a strong plus

  • Must be comfortable working in a studio with large dogs present- & occasionally a large cat.

Ideal fit:
Someone who values craftsmanship, works with intention, and enjoys the rhythm of studio production. This is not a teaching role, but it is a great opportunity to be closely involved in a multidisciplinary studio practice and process.
